Tuesday
China has been urbanizing since 2000. Urbanization has not only influenced Chinese society greatly but has also promoted the development of urban churches in China. We praise God for the rise of urban churches which is a new beginning for Christianity in China. May the Lord help the urban churches to adapt to the changing times and to manifest His power and grace. We pray that all churches will have a great influence on moral in Chinese society.
Wednesday
The urbanization of China is changing the demographic of churches in China. Rural churches are losing members because the young people seek work in cities. Churches and ministries decline because many are left with only elderly people and the "left behind" children. As urban churches grow and mature, we pray that rural churches will not just become weak and hopeless. We too pray for revival of rural churches, may the Lord strengthen and give courage to those who serve in churches in small towns and villages.
Thursday
Urban pastors in China agree that city churches there face four key challenges. One is the current mobile and floating nature of the population of China which leads to short and unpredictable church membership and attendance so training for discipleship of believers and for co-workers is difficult. May the Lord give church leadership wisdom in finding ways to follow up each of their sheep as well as a strategy to train their co-workers intentionally and effectively.
Friday
Many urban pastors in China admit their leadership skill is their biggest weakness. They know how to preach, take care of the needs of the smaller congregation, but they feel inadequate to plan, organize and lead the church to grow. Not everyone is gifted to be a leader and secular leadership skills cannot be blindly used in the church. We pray for the gift of leadership for pastors in China, that they will seek a vision from God Himself, and be a humble servant like Jesus was, not lording it over the sheep but be willing to serve them.
Saturday
Another big issue urban churches in China face is that of courtship and dating for the single people, especially the sisters. Historically there are more girls than fellows in churches so many single sisters have to struggle with the decision of marrying a non-believer or staying single. Churches should to be sensitive to the needs and pressures all young ladies face. We pray that there will be an innovative way to bring these Christian singles together and the church leaders will know how to minister to them.
Sunday
A hugely important issue for urban churches in China is their minimal participation in society and in their neighborhoods. Many churches are simply invisible and make no impact on their community. A majority of the churches are unregistered house churches that struggle with the decision to register with the government. We pray about their legal status and their desire to participate more in their communities and even in mission efforts.
Monday
Urbanization of China has lead to great prosperity. However, there is a tremendous and increasing spiritual hunger and thirst as a result of people moving into cities. We pray that churches will realize their need and mobilize at this time, that they will seize the opportunity to meet the need of the spiritual vacuum among so many Chinese and that Christians will increase their efforts to share the gospel with people all around them.

Prayer Request 12/20 - 12/26
Tuesday
To meet the soaring demand for higher education which many families consider a pathway into the growing middle class, the government in China has built hundreds of universities in recent years. Many young people there are first exposed to Christianity in college. We pray for the evangelistic efforts of young Christians who invite their friends to Bible study groups. May the Lord reward them with great fruit and much joy.
Wednesday
Chinese children spend years preparing for the gaokao, the all-powerful national exam that determines admission to universities in China. A few points on the examination mean the difference between a good and a bad university, and a life of wealth or poverty. We pray for those young Christians who could not get into the university of their choice. May the Lord give them faith that our Heavenly Father has prepared the best for us so they will honor Him in every part of their lives.
Thursday
College enrollment in China reached 26.2 million in 2015, up from 3.4 million in 1998m with much of the increase found in the three-year polytechnic programs. The total number of people graduating from college is rapidly increasing and this are more college graduates in churches as well. We pray for the need of higher education for pastors in China so they can communicate more clearly and understand their younger congregations better.
Friday
In China, nearly all college students graduate within four years according to official statistics so they feel there is no need to work hard. The feeling is "They don't really flunk anyone. The contract is, if you got in here, you get out."Recently school officials have been pressuring Christian teachers who are involved in Bible studies for students. We pray for all of the ministries on or near college campuses. May the Lord give them safety and boldness in sharing Jesus.
Saturday
The slowing economy in China has made it difficult for university graduates to find work, with about one-fifth of them remaining unemployed immediately after graduation and many settling into low-paying jobs. The shortcomings of the educational system leave many students struggling to find programs that match their aspirations. We praise the Lord for the many Christian groups that attract large attendance and even a large number of conversions. We pray for the difficult part of follow-up and helping these baby Christians to find continuing church life.
Sunday
Primary and secondary schools in China are often derided as grueling, test-driven institutions that churn out students who can recite basic facts but have little capacity for deep reasoning. To the majority of these students, their study is motivated mostly by the fear of examinations. Many are impressed by how Christians can recite the Scripture so well. We praise God for this emphasis on Bible memorization but we pray, too, that none of us will become legalistic or fail to apply the principles in it and live out God's Word.
Monday
Critics argue that teachers in China place an unhealthy emphasis on test preparation and rote memorization at the expense of critical thinking skills and creativity. They also say international exams overrule the strength of China's system because they exclude students from the poorer regions. Many Christians in China like to debate their views of the Bible and often get into heated arguments. We pray that each of us will have a deep and balanced conviction of Who God is and also have the humility to learn that others love the Lord just as much as we do.

Prayer Request 12/13 - 12/19
Tuesday
The ordinary person in China has little idea of the origin and true meaning of Christmas but he/she will brave cold weather to line up in front of a church to get in to attend a Christmas Eve service. We pray for all of the preparation and effort to invite people during the Christmas season. May the Lord use these special services to welcome the unreached and may the Holy Spirit move in their hearts so that some will respond and accept Jesus as their personal Savior.
Wednesday
In Beijing, Shanghai and many of the larger cities in China, churches offer Christmas Eve services as well as those on Christmas Day which curious people who usually would not step inside a church will attend. Many curiosity seekers get into a long line to see the "Christmas show":. We pray that churches will have adequate plans so they can follow up on all those who attend, attract them to return to worship, and even join small groups.
Thursday
When churches in China (whether large or small) have a special Christmas service, the church building predictably will be packed. For churches there, Christmas is a great time to share the gospel openly. We pray for believers to get excited and have the boldness to witness to their neighbors and be willing to invite them as well as their relatives and friends to church.
Friday
Christmas is one of the rare and precious occasions for churches in China to have multi-generational services. Usually there are presentations by the seniors, adults of all ages, and especially the children. We pray for more opportunities for church members of all ages to be together, learning from and edifying each other. We thank the Lord for all of the little ones who perform in the Christmas programs. May the Lord help them to know Jesus well while they're still young.
Saturday
In China, the slogan of “China Dream” is ubiquitous, it is a vision of a cohesive, equal society, increasingly wealthy and healthy, and happily wedded to Communist Party rule, ardent patriotism and traditional values. The nationalistic and patriotic sentiment do not bode well for churches in China, since Christianity is still deeply suspected of having foreign ties and agenda. We pray for growth of churches and spiritual growth of all believers in China
Sunday
As China’s total wealth has rapidly grown, there are increasingly pronounced imbalances in Chinese society. This is reflected not only in the polarization of incomes and wealth, but also in plainly observable disparities in education, health and other social protections. The disparity of rich and poor churches in China is also widening. We pray church leaders, especially those in the cities will step up and offer some solution to this problem and try to provide some assistance now.
Monday
The top one percent of Chinese households possess one-third of the country's domestic wealth while the bottom quarter of them hold only one percent of it. The disparity is greatest in access to housing, education, and health care. Christian philanthropy is still in its infant stage in China. We pray that believers who are blessed by the Lord will first give themselves to God then devote their efforts to helping churches that have few resources. We pray many more wealthy believers will step up and give for the sake of God's Kingdom.

Friday
In every society, family background plays a powerful role in determining the level of education of the people there, but in China political privilege is also an important factor. Having a father who is a Communist Party member also has a clear, positive effect on the number of years an individual will be able to go to school. Many families in China encourage their children to join the Party so they will have the opportunity to advance better. We pray for faith and trust in God for believers who struggle to know how to give their children some advantages in getting ahead.
Saturday
In China, discrimination against girls has weakened, but it remains a powerful factor in the opportunity for schooling. On average, boys receive 1.5 more years of schooling than girls. Many church workers are female and they face pressure from their family to get married or take on other better jobs. This is particular hard when their parents are not yet believers. We remember their physical and emotional need.
Sunday
Unequal access to health care has been a source of dissatisfaction for many in China, especially residents of the countryside and small towns where medical insurance has been less widely available and where there are fewer doctors and hospitals. Many workers in rural churches must farm to support themselves since they have little money for health care or education for their children. We pray that God will bless them with not only good health to serve Him and the Lord will help their children to do well in school.
Monday

In China, the slogan of “China Dream” is ubiquitous, it is a vision of a cohesive, equal society, increasingly wealthy and healthy, and happily wedded to Communist Party rule, ardent patriotism and traditional values. The nationalistic and patriotic sentiment do not bode well for churches in China, since Christianity is still deeply suspected of having foreign ties and agenda. We pray for growth of churches and spiritual growth of all believers in China
Wednesday
As China’s total wealth has rapidly grown, there are increasingly pronounced imbalances in Chinese society. This is reflected not only in the polarization of incomes and wealth, but also in plainly observable disparities in education, health and other social protections. The disparity of rich and poor churches in China is also widening. We pray church leaders, especially those in the cities will step up and offer some solution to this problem and try to provide some assistance now.
Thursday
Monday
Christmas is one of the rare and precious occasions for churches in China to have multi-generational services. Usually there are presentations by the seniors, adults of all ages, and especially the children. We pray for more opportunities for church members of all ages to be together, learning from and edifying each other. We thank the Lord for all of the little ones who perform in the Christmas programs. May the Lord help them to know Jesus well while they're still young.

Prayer Request 11/29 - 12/5
Tuesday
According to official 2015 data, a total of 3,841 million couples filed for divorce in China that year--an increase of 5.6% over the previous year. Many Christians and even pastors experience a marital crisis such as an extramarital affair or otherwise succumbing to temptation. We pray for the guarding of the hearts of all believers. "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous." (Hebrews 13:4)
Wednesday
A survey found that the key reason for the rising divorce rate in China is extramarital affairs--nearly half of all divorces. Men who are employed in information/media are more likely to have an affair than others, and women who are full-time mothers are the ones most likely perpetrators. We pray that all believers will know that God has called us to be holy in our thoughts as well as our bodies. "Each one of you to know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the nations who do not know God. (1 Thess. 4:4-5)
Thursday
Most migrant workers in China live near their factories where living conditions are poor. Many of the male workers who are there without their families, easily succumb to sexual temptation. Prostitution is also rampant there. Since we are called to care about the spiritual lives of millions of migrant workers in China, we also need to pray for the guarding of their hearts as well as their bodies, they sin against God and that they can overcome sexual temptation. (1 Corinth. 6:18)
Friday
The top five reasons for divorce in China are: extramarital affairs, domestic violence, personality clashes, in-law relationship discord, and spousal addictions. The idea of marriage lasting a lifetime or "growing old together" are totally thrown out. We pray for the marriages of believers, not only that they will stay intact but that they will be an example of Christ's love for others in the church. We pray also that couples will serve together in their churches.
Saturday
Believers need teaching from the church to grow and know God's will for their lives. Churches in China greatly need teaching on building Christian families and holiness in their daily lives. Teaching for believers takes a long time. We pray that the churches will have systematic teaching designed to equip believers with truth and exemplified before them so they will not become hypocritical Pharisees.
Sunday
While the false and extreme teachings of cults are ravaging rural churches in China, in the big cities, foreign cults are stealing young and innocent believers from the urban churches. We pray for God's mercy for all the churches there. May the Lord raise up more spiritual watchmen who will stand in the gap by praying for young believers, alerting them to the danger, and warning them to flee from the deceptive practices of these cults.
Monday
Many are alarmed by how quickly China churches are becoming secularized, people see churches a social gathering place especially after retirement. Also, churches are not transparent in its finance, causing believers to be cynical and not willing to be involved. We pray for revival of His churches, protection of those who love and serve Him. We ask God to corrupt the attacks of cults and punish the evil servants who treat the House of God as their own enterprise.

Prayer Request 11/22 - 11/28
Tuesday
Churches with mostly Wenzhou believers usually have good theological training and teaching. Most of their members are business people. These churches are more likely to plant new churches, but they are territorial by nature. Whenever Wenzhou believers gather, they always revert to speak in their dialect which is not understandable to others. We pray all churches will intentionally be inclusive, not just trying to attract intellectual or rich people, but also to include those not-so-well educated and laborers.
Wednesday
In contrast to the churches with believers from Wenzhou, the churches in Anhui and Henan have a definite cultural inferiority among the believers. The majority of rural believers in China are found in churches in these two provinces. We specifically lift up believers in Anhui and Henan. May the Lord revive them once again and strengthen them through His Word and by His Spirit. May their passion for Jesus once again be strong and may they not be led astray by cults and extreme teachings.
Thursday
Efforts by the government of China to expand health insurance have made a difference in the countryside there. More people living in rural areas now have some kind of coverage but it is not usually so generous as that given to city dwellers. Economic and welfare improvement are very evident in rural China but the majority of churches there are in decline because the young people have left to work in the cities. We pray for wisdom, strength, and passion for those believers who are now leading churches that have no pastors.
Friday
Health insurance for women in China is not so good as that for men. Females, rural residents and people in low income groups all have fewer health care subsidies but still pay a higher out-of-pocket premium. Many if not most of the co-workers in rural churches are now poorly educated women. We praise God because they serve wholeheartedly. May the Lord give them wisdom and boldness to share His Word along with opportunities to receive more training.
Saturday
The middle class in China is composed of professionals, managers, white-collar workers, and business owners. They are a stabilizing pillar of the governance of the Communist Party. We thank the Lord because the Middle Class is also the new majority of many urban churches. These people in turn attract and bring in more people with similar backgrounds to the churches. We pray that they will be more committed, serve humbly, and give generously to their churches.
Sunday
The casinos are only "the tip of the iceberg" when it comes to gambling in China. Although gambling is strictly forbidden, it is still widely popular and complex. Private gambling for high-rollers is a complex enterprise but gambling for common folks is found practically everywhere including underground betting. "So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof." (Proverbs 1:19) We pray for families of believers that are ravaged by gambling. May the Lord deliver their loved one from bondage and restore the broken relationship.
Monday
Gambling is an illness which afflicts millions and millions of people in China, including Christians and even some pastors. This vice causes families to break up, deeply impairs ministries in the churches, and brings shame to God's name. We pray for all who are in the bondage of gambling and greed. May the Spirit of the Lord deliver them and heal their broken families. May each of us be a good witness for Jesus Christ.

Prayer Request 11/15 - 11/21
Tuesday
Since 2006, elementary and junior high education has been free of tuition in China but high school education can be very expensive, especially in the cities. Education of children is the biggest reason Chinese parents have for saving money. We pray for faith in God, knowing the Lord will provide for us and our children as we follow the Biblical duty God has given us to teach them to trust God.
Wednesday
The government in China encourages teachers to steer academic underachievers toward vocational schools. It also gives a subsidy of 1,500 yuan each to many of the rural vocational school students to help them with tuition.Being labeled an academic underachiever is a stigma many young people have to live with in China. We pray especially for those who are Christians, that the Lord will give them healthy self-esteem and a realization that God has a plan for their lives.
Thursday
The fact is that vocational schools in rural China are really no better than their middle school counterparts. Schools in rural regions are blighted by scant funding and a staff of poor quality. The educational future of youth in rural China seems very dismal. This is exactly why we need to pray urgently for the education of the next generation of youth in the churches who are the future for the church in China.
Friday
The rural churches in China are in a transitional period. Many of them consist of mostly old people since the young ones (the so-called "migrant workers" who work in the fields of house remodeling, housekeeping, or recycling) have left to work in cities. Many Christians in the villages simply quit going to church because they are so busy or cannot find a church near them. We pray for those who have not been in church for some time. May the Holy Spirit stir them to seek a spiritual home and go to that church.
Saturday
Most migrant workers get to return to their village only once a year--during Chinese New Year. For most migrant workers who are Christians that is the only time they are in church every year. Many migrant workers who are Christians are embarrassed, self-conscious, or even have an overwhelming inferiority complex in the church setting in the cities. May the Lord have mercy on them and help them to fit in to seek spiritual growth together with believers in the city.
Sunday
China has a huge population of young people (100 million high school students), but the youth ministry in China has many challenges with few workers, low levels of education, along with pastors and parents who do not lend much support. Despite all of these difficulties and obstacles, we ask the Lord to be gracious to the youth of China. May He open the eyes of leaders in the church to see this huge need and commit to tackle it.
Monday
In many cities in China, the churches have gone "up-market" and are effective in reaching college students, graduates, and intellectuals only. However, there is a great need for these churches to develop a Biblically-based theology that is culturally and socially relevant. We praise God for bringing many highly-educated and professional people to the churches in China but we pray these same churches will not forget to minister to the poor and socially marginalized people.

Prayer Request 11/8 - 11/14
Tuesday
At the end of 2015, the total number of students from China who had gone abroad to study was about four million, and the number of those who had returned after their studies was about 2.2 million. Many of these students have had exposure to Christianity and even have become Christians while they are abroad. We praise the Lord for the great harvest by all of the churches that reach out to students and even have well-designed ministered for these Chinese students.
Wednesday
Nearly eighty percent of the Chinese who have studied abroad return to China when they graduate. There are more females than males who go abroad--about sixty percent are female. Connecting with churches and continuing spiritual growth are not easy for those who were baptized abroad and then returned to China. We pray for these Christians that the Lord will keep them from temptation and discouragement and lead them to find fellowship in Christ quickly.
Thursday
In terms of education, eighty percent of the students who go abroad and then return to China, return with a master's degree, ten percent have a doctoral degree and ten percent have a bachelor's degree. The government in China has stepped up the "Patriotic Program" for students going abroad to prevent them from becoming Christians. We pray for fruitfulness for all of the evangelistic efforts by churches and believers, that the Holy Spirit will soften the hearts of young people who have been taught that Christianity is merely a foreign religion.
Friday
When students from China return home from abroad and are looking for a job, their chief considerations are career advancement, location, and compensation. Seventy-five percent of them want to be in a city on the east coast, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen. In these large cities, there are fellowship groups with Christians who have returned from abroad and even churches for expats. We pray for vibrant and fruitful ministries for them, not only in providing a spiritual home for the young people but also an outreach point through which to reach local people.
Saturday
In recent years as the number of students returning to China has increased, the competition for jobs has become fierce. Many who have returned are disappointed by the lack of offers and the low beginning salaries, especially after the huge financial investment in their foreign education. We pray for Christians who have returned to China from abroad that they will continue to trust God knowing that He has a great purpose and plan for them there.
Sunday
According to a study by the British embassy of those who returned to China with the enviable master's degree in finance from schools in Britain, only sixty percent find jobs immediately and their average salary is only 3000-4000 yuan (about $500. USD). We pray for all Christians who have jobs that they will consider getting a less than desirable salary. May the Lord help them to find purpose and be thankful for their jobs, reminding them to be His witnesses at work and in their communities.
Monday
The average salary for those who return to China with a degree from a foreign university is about 3000-4000 yuan ($500. USD) Nearly sixty percent of them work at an entry staff level. As the economy slows in China, the prospect for employment for those who studied abroad dims. We remember those believers who have difficulty finding work for various reasons. May the Lord remind us all that He is faithful and will provide us with what we need and we are not to lose faith but trust Him even in times of frustration and waiting.

Prayer Request 11/1 - 11/7
Tuesday
More than 900 pastors of house churches from China gathered to mobilize at least 20,000 Chinese missionaries to plant thousands of churches by the year of 2030. We give thanks that churches in China have come together with this vision. We pray, too, that ministry goals will not become mere slogans but that churches will humbly work together and realize they can learn from each other.
Wednesday
When the pastors of house churches in China chose the number 20,000, it was because they estimate about that many foreign missionaries have been sent to China in the last two centuries. They claim that China must repay the "debt of the gospel" in order to be a true "missionary sending country". World evangelism should not be tinted with nationalistic pride so we pray for humility and willingness to learn from others for the church in China which has much to learn from Western and even Korean churches in sending missionaries.
Thursday
The bold vision of the church in China to mobilize, equip, and send 20,000 missionaries in the next fifteen years will be achieved only the by work of God's Spirit Who unites the church to accomplish this God-sized dream. We ask our Lord on behalf of churches in China for true unity, not just ambition to expand one's churches for self gain, and that they will work as a team sharing their resources, time, effort, and finances.
Friday
To send out 20,000 Chinese missionaries in fifteen years will be the greatest missions effort of the church there in all of their history and can have a tremendous impact on global missions. We pray for humility and unity for church leaders so they can share the vision and begin selecting and training candidates in their churches and that overseas Chinese churches will also get involved and help them.
Saturday
Cults and heresies thrive in rural China because hearts are empty and believers lack adequate teaching. They do, however, give poor people some hope and even some monetary benefits. We pray for those believers who have been led astray and also churches that have been ravaged by cults. May the Lord have mercy on them and deliver them from false teachings helping them to realize the deception and give them a desire to return to the truth.
Sunday
All kinds of social issues, injustice or disparity of rich and poor, vicious competition, pollution, food safety and corruption, make poor people more vulnerable to the doomsday preaching of cults. Many believers in China simply accept what charismatic preachers say because they do not have a Biblical foundation. We pray for wisdom and spiritual discernment for all believers in China, but above all, a hunger for God's Word.
Monday
There has been an increase in cheating on the college entrance and post-graduate entrance exams in China. This is a complex and profit-making business. Students view the buying of answers to the exam online as an open secret. We pray for parents who are believers and teach their children Biblical values along with Christian students in China who face immense pressure to excel in their studies.

Prayer Request 10/25 - 10/31
Tuesday
Hong Kong's vibrant Christian community has long been a magnet for mainland Chinese visitors. Tens of thousands of people cross the border each year for Sunday school, seminars and mega church gatherings in this former British colony. Hong Kong enjoys greater freedoms, including religious liberties, than the mainland. We praise God for the vibrant churches, and their dedication to mission efforts not only to China, but the whole world.
Wednesday
In recent months, Chinese officials have barred mainland residents from attending some religious conferences in Hong Kong, increased oversight of mainland programs run by Hong Kong pastors, and issued warnings to outspoken leaders, causing some to reconsider their work in the mainland. We pray for the situation of increased restriction and monitoring of churches in Hong Kong. May the Lord give favor and protection to those who are involved.
Thursday
Christianity is China's fastest-growing religion, with at least 67 million followers, many of whom worship in independent house churches or unofficial churches, often with the acquiescence of the government. We pray for the churches in China, especially at this time when the government seems to be tightening control at home and restricting interaction with churches abroad. May the Lord protect all who are under increased scrutiny by officials.
Friday
Chinese Communist Party has long associated Christianity with subversive Western values, and over the past year, officials have accelerated efforts to demolish churches, shutter Christian schools, and remove crosses from churches. We pray for comfort and strengthening of spirit for all the churches who have experienced demolition and closure. May the Lord give them wisdom and patience as they express their feeling of frustration and disappointment.
Saturday
Chinese leaders have historically shown greater lenience toward Hong Kong, which is now home to about 850,000 Christians, 1,500 churches, a Christian newspaper and a Baptist university. Hong Kong Christian community is indeed unique and much blessed by the Lord. We pray that they will continue to be an example of love, unity and sending missionaries for all Chinese believers.
Sunday
About sixty percent of Hong Kong's churches have ministries inside China such as theological training. But spreading the gospel in the mainland can be difficult. Hong Kong residents are often treated as foreigners, and they are not permitted to establish churches, hand out pamphlets, proselytize or preach.
Monday
China had promised to give Hong Kong freedom to be "one country, two systems", the term used to describe the relationship between China and Hong Kong. We do not know how long Beijing will keep her promise of giving Hong Kong special treatment. We pray for the future of churches there and their contribution and influence to all Cantonese-speaking churches worldwide.

Prayer Request 10/18 - 10/24
Tuesday
Since 2004, China’s divorce rate has risen for ten consecutive years. In 2013 more than 3.5 million couples applied for divorce. We recognize that this is not only a social problem; it is also a spiritual problem--a spiritual battle within the church for the families of believers. Many pastors do not think that messages on family issues are spiritual enough for their sermons. We pray for more Biblical and practical teaching on marriage in churches.
Wednesday
There have been various reasons given for an increase in divorce in China--money, property ownership, relationships. Some couples may also arrange divorces to avoid paying taxes, arrange household registration (hukou). or accomplish other ends. Pastors in China really do not have the time and training to provide marital counselling. Since divorce is no longer a stigma, many believers simply go ahead without informing their pastor. We pray churches will have better ways and means to minister to those who have marital difficulties.
Thursday
Some Chinese initiate a fake divorce in order to purchase a second home. That is because some cities in China prohibit one couple from owning more than one home. One way around this is for the couple to obtain a legal divorce, but to continue to live together. Cohabitation and premarital sex are no longer uncommon in churches in China. To speak against it is not popular and usually means that people are driven away from the church. We pray for wisdom, boldness, and sensitivity for all pastors in China who find it awkward to teach Biblical truth.
Friday
Chastity is no longer the only standard of virtue by which a Chinese woman is measured. Women can be very financially independent and in fact, many have opted to stay single or simply living together without marriage. Many churches have a large number of divorced sisters. Although they are generally accepted, it is not easy for them to be involved in the fellowship. We pray for more efforts intentionally ministering to those who are divorced to help them grow spiritually.
Saturday
“We marry for a good life and divorce for a better life” is the mantra for many Chinese couples now. They stress quality of life and marriage, rather than holding onto the traditional "stay-married no matter what" attitude. We pray for believers in China who are struggling with their marriages. May the Lord provide them with competent spiritual mentors who can guide them well. We pray, too, for healing for believers whose grown children are considering divorce.
Sunday
The internet has a huge impact on the attitude toward marriage and divorce in China. Liberal sexual attitudes and all kinds of online dating tools have paved the way for widespread premarital cohabitation and affairs in the marriage. We must be cognizant of Satan's schemes to destroy the marriages of believers. We pray for more teaching and resources on marriage and the family for both urban and rural churches.
Monday
Some reasons contributing to an increase of divorces in China are: marital strains of migrant workers, the capricious and unyielding approach of the one-child-only generation towards marital struggles, people waiting longer to get married, and greater convenience and rights protection in divorce cases. The marriages of even young Christian couples are at risk. We pray for wisdom, godly advice, and the healing power of God for many mature couples in the churches who serve as mentors and mediators for young couples in their churches.

Prayer Request 10/4 - 10/10
Tuesday
Many rural churches in China are without pastors and many more lack clear vision, direction, and planning. There are even more churches that think all they need is committed people and financial resources to be able to grow. We pray for those churches that are still “all talk but no action”. May the Lord revive them so they will have real spiritual growth rather than mere superficial spirituality.
Wednesday
Although the number of churches in China has increased rapidly, the number of pastors for those churches has not grown in proportion. Pastors are overworked with little time for their children, spouses, or even for God. Unfortunately, their families often do not appreciate their dedication to God. We pray for wisdom for all pastors so they will know how to balance church ministries with the needs of their families since we know that their family should be the best source of love and support for pastors.
Thursday
In recent years there have been more pastors from China or their children going abroad for study than ever before. This has caused the pastors to be separated from their families and suffer from poor communication for long periods of time. Let us pray for the pastors of families that are separated from each other that they will have quality time together, intimacy, and improved communication when they do get together. Pray that above all God would protect them from the attack of the evil one
Friday
Public education in China is rooted in atheism and there are few opportunities for Christian education since very few churches offer kindergartens or preschools.Young Christian parents in China consider preschool education to be a necessity because they are afraid their children will “fall behind” in school. We pray these parents will know that God has entrusted their children to them and it is their responsibility to teach the children that Jesus loves them.
Saturday
In the past decade, some believers in China began exploring the possibilities of church school or home schooling and the feasibility of a Christian-based education. We pray for wisdom for churches as they explore faith-based options as compared to the government educational system. We pray, too, that Christian parents will help their children who begin to question their faith in school.
Sunday
Under the existing policy, church-sponsored schools are not recognized in China. The homeschooling option is still immature and lacks a good curriculum as well as official approval and recognition. We pray churches will be more diligent in providing a healthy Sunday school program which will help parents who are believers to know it is their responsibility to rear godly children.
Monday
Churches in China have recently been hosting all kinds of training classes such as those for volunteers, praise and worship, Sunday school teachers, and even on legal issues. We thank the Lord for all of those who have received training. May they be able to serve even more effectively in their church by using their spiritual gifts and their commitment. May the Lord use them to bless and revive the church.

Prayer Request 9/27 - 10/3
Tuesday
It is difficult to explain exactly why so many young people are turning to Buddhism in China but the policy of the Communist Party has moved toward treating Buddhism more favorably than other religions. Many believers in China will not share the gospel with Buddhists because they think Buddhists would not change their faith or practices. It is our prayer that we will be more loving with the love of God and ever more willing to share Jesus with people of other faiths.
Wednesday
It is estimated that 30 percent of Wenzhou people work or have business in other cities, while so many migrants come to Wenzhou to work. We pray for the revival of churches in Wenzhou, not to take pride in their own wealth as before, but rather continue to be great example to all believers in China, because of in their zeal to evangelize and generous giving toward God’s work.
Thursday
A lack of professionalism skews everything in China. A century into China's quest to be a modern state, ''the norms and standards of medical professionalism'' and ''the independent civic organizations that could promote and enforce them'' are still missing. Lack of professionalism also extends into being a member of the clergy in China. Although believers consider them called by God, few really respect them as a professional. We pray that believers will honor their shepherd and God’s workers can truly be effective in managing God’s church.
Friday
igarettes are a national pastime in China, especially among men. Wedding banquet tables routinely feature plates of stacked cigarettes for guests. Cartons of expensive brands have long been given as presents or to curry favor with officials. Socializing in China is about liquor and cigarettes. We pray for Christians who must attend social functions. May the Lord safeguard their minds and souls so they will know how to decline gracefully and be able to be a witness for God at the same time.
Saturday
For churches in remote counties or villages in China, it is difficult to openly share the gospel. These churches do, however try to make themselves visible for weddings and funerals. Even as such churches must exist with many restrictions, we praise God for those that are able to find innovative ways to publicly share their testimonies.
Sunday
Some of the rural churches in China encourage their members to learn to play musical instruments and drums so they can form musical bands to march for weddings and funerals playing hymns and thus, publicly share their testimony. May the Lord mightily use these marching bands with their joyful or comforting music to touch many who otherwise would not even know about Christianity.
Monday
In 2016, 7.56 million young people graduated from colleges in China, an increase of 180,000 people over 2015. Besides all of these, there are high school graduates looking for work so that altogether there will be fifteen million young people seeking employment this year. We pray for young Christians searching for jobs that the Lord will provide them mentors who can give them good advice and help them make good career choices. May they learn to trust in God even during times of waiting and disappointment.

Prayer Request 9/20 - 9/26
Tuesday
China is planning to speed up it's anti-corruption efforts by investigating more officials and departments at three times the current speed. However, some suggest that such moves are not simple in nature but instead pave the way for the next leader. In China raising up a new church is a slow process. It takes years to implement change and steer churches to a new ministry focus. We pray for God's wisdom, good interpersonal relationships and integrity for all new leaders in the churches in China.
Wednesday
After a study of air quality in five of the cities in China, Guangzhou is considered the most livable. Shanghai and Guangzhou rank best in air quality, partly because of their proximity to the sea and also that they get more rain than Guangzhou. Of these five cities, Beijing and Chengdu have the worst air pollution. These are the five cities where American consulates are located so we pray for those who go there for visas that they would have the opportunity to hear the gospel while they are abroad and even be baptized.
Thursday
Among the five cities checked for air quality, there are seasonal differences in terms of air quality. Beijing, however has bad air all year around. The other four cities have better quality of air in the summer and poor quality in the winter. Believers usually have to travel some distance to attend church which means the time they have for fellowship is mainly on Sunday so time for fellowship and interaction with other believers can be limited. We pray for urban churches, for their growth in the types of ministries as well as the number of people who attend and the quality of fellowship among believers.
Friday
The quality of air in Beijing and Shenyang is terrible in winter because these two cities use coal and fossil fuel for heating homes. We pray for revival for churches in all of the five cities with poor air conditions. All of them are mega cities with tens of millions of people. Believers in general are busy with work and investing in the stock market and real estate so they don't have much appetite for spiritual things.
Saturday
Beijing and Chengdu have both suffered the most prolonged spells of heavy pollution because of their geography. Beijing has a strong northwesterly wind in winter which helps clear the air but that has severe pollution from too many automobiles. Among these five cities, probably Beijing has the most vibrant churches. We pray their fervor and passion for evangelism will encourage churches in other cities to get excited about sharing the gospel in their communities and starting church plants in other smaller cities around them.
Sunday
Even in Guangzhou and Shanghai where air quality is considered to be better, the days of "good air" are only about 37% of the time and then it lasts only a couple of days. A good quality of air and safe food to eat are two things people in China wish to have but they can do little to improve what they already have. We pray for the spiritual pollution churches in China are facing right now which includes overwhelming materialism, the seduction of "success theology", and lukewarm believers.
Monday
Of the five cities studied, air pollution in Beijing and Chengdu is the most enduring. The report said, "Don't move to Beijing, Chengdu, or Shenyang if you can help it." We pray that churches in the five cities studied will have more mutual fellowship, getting to know each other better. Many churches are affiliated with others but are quite territorial and discourage their members from attending other churches. We pray for unity of churches with the larger ones being willing to help the smaller and weaker ones.

Prayer Request 9/13 - 9/19
Tuesday
The culture of brown-nosing becomes a costly competition during Teacher Appreciation Day, a national holiday in China in September, when students of all ages are expected to bring gifts to their teachers. Besides the pastor, churches have many who teach or lead fellowship groups or classes. We praise the Lord for all the teachers in churches, asking God for wisdom, humility and more spiritual gifts as they serve the Body of Christ.
Wednesday
In the past, a floral bouquet or fruit basket would suffice for a teacher's appreciation gift. Now many Chinese teachers expect to be given designer watches, expensive teas, gift cards, or even vacations. Churches in China have not been very good in showing appreciation to those who serve, wrongly thinking that “praise from men means loss of praise from God”. It is our prayer that we will not be stingy in showing appreciation to those who serve whether visible or behind the scene.
Thursday
It is said that the value of gifts to teachers has grown fifty times from a decade ago. In Inner Mongolia, some parents said, more assertive teachers welcome debit cards attached to bank accounts that can be replenished throughout the year. Serving the Lord should never be for money, power or influence. We pray for churches that have lost confidence in or are dissatisfied with their leaders. May the Lord show them how they can correct it and help them to pray earnestly for their church and its leaders.
Friday
The news about corrupt officials who have multiple mistresses in China is no longer a shocker. Sexual immorality and corruption go hand in hand in China's society today and the young people there have very few good role models for their romance and married life. We pray for good solid Bible teaching and a good role model for young believers in the churches in China. May the Lord raise up couples who will minister to young people and help them to desire courtship and marriage that is blessed by the Lord from the very beginning.
Saturday
The military in China is ending the so-called "paid services" which means they are giving up army-operated hospitals and hotels which have been a "cash cow" and provided a huge income. Corruption is everywhere in China and is a way of life. We pray for all believers who are striving to live their lives knowing that God is the Master and they want to resist temptation to greed.
Sunday
The latest effort to improve and fight corruption in the military in China was preceded by the recent announcement that they are going to cut 300,000 troops. Despite these reform efforts, much resistance and deviation in their implementation can be expected. Church tradition and attitude are probably the hardest to change. We pray the Lord will bring revival and renewal to many churches in China, first by changing the attitude many churches hold so dearly. “we are the one who are spiritual and on fire for Him.”
Monday
In 2017 the Communist Party will hold its next National Congress and it is likely that at that time they will reveal the next line of succession. This is a difficult time for China as the economy slows and job prospects are poor for the unemployed and those newly graduated. Besides praying for the political leaders, we also pray for those who are replacing retiring pastors or are new to leadership in the church. May the Lord give them vision, a clear sense of the priority of the ministries God has given them, and a spirit of unity in the churches.

Prayer Request 9/6 - 9/12
Tuesday
In many hospitals in China scalpers can make tens of thousands of dollars by selling numbered tickets for appointments. They hire people to wait in line in the evening and resell the tickets to those who want to see doctors, especially the specialists. Getting medical attention in China takes both time and finances. We pray for healing for sick believers and peace and joy for their family members.
Wednesday
In China, there is always a long time of patients waiting to see the doctors. At the hospital there are ticket scalpers because there is a huge imbalance between medical providers and the great demand caused by the sheer number of patients. Chinese people utilize connections to get things such as seeing a doctor done. We pray for those who lack money and connections. May the Lord comfort them with the knowledge that He is in control and provides for those He loves.
Thursday
Sick people in China insist on seeing specialists. Some of the hospitals try to eliminate scalpers who sell tickets for appointments to specialists by insisting that all patients must be seen by primary doctors first and then referred to specialists.Believers in China have a big place in their hearts for "big name preachers" and consider their own pastors inadequate for their position. We pray for humility for all believers and their being willing to pray for the spiritual growth and gifts of their own shepherd/pastor.
Friday
In China, there is a climate of mistrust in the medical system. Chinese patients are fed up with their doctors, and doctors are fed up with their patients. It is unfortunate that pastors and their church members in China have a similar relationship. We pray believers will have more respect and appreciate the sacrifice and efforts of their pastors.
Saturday
‘‘Kan bing nan,’’ or ‘‘It’s hard to see a doctor,’’ pretty much sum up China's oversubscribed, underfunded, often corrupt, health system. In frustration, patients attack their physicians. Bribery is common. Bribery is a pervasive problem in China, not just limited to officials. We pray for the purity of the Body of Christ, integrity of church leaders and restoration of confidence and faith of believers in their leaders.
Sunday
The families of hospital patients in China gather in the waiting rooms and corridors, live and even cook in wards and tend to the sick to make up for inadequate nursing. They also stage noisy protests to get the attention of staff members.Hospital visits there are often done by lay people. May the Lord raise up more believers who are gifted with mercy and caring, and able to encourage and pray with the sick.
Monday
Many remember that during the Mao period, relationships between doctors and patients were relatively harmonious and healthcare are readily available. Today, there are conflicts between doctors and patients because medical practice is much about making money. Many people in China (especially older Christians) remember the simple old days with nostalgia. We need to pray for revival in many churches since prosperity and comfort have turned many believers lukewarm and church meetings are poorly attended.

Prayer Request 8/30 - 9/5
Tuesday
Gymnastics has always been a dominant sport for the Chinese Olympic team but they failed to score any gold or silver medals in Rio. This year they won the fewest number of gold medals they have won since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. It is only natural that Christians compare the attendance at their churches. Many churches in China feel inadequate and unable to evangelize due to their small size. May the Lord have mercy on us so we don't merely look at sizes but look on Him Himself.
Wednesday
Sports officials and coaches in China concluded that the Chinese team this year was too young and lacked experience. The level of competitiveness has slid significantly and their training was less than desirable. Many pastors enter ministry with theological training but lack interpersonal skill and maturity so they give up serving when they encounter setbacks. We pray especially for those who are having difficulty in ministry and the young pastors who are struggling with interpersonal issues.
Thursday
China sent more athletes to the Rio Olympics than any other country (410) but seventy percent of them were first-time participants with an average age of only twenty-four (the youngest Olympic team for China since 2008). When many young pastors begin serving in their churches, they must shoulder all of the responsibilities without having any mentor to guide them. May the Lord have mercy on churches so they will honor those who labor among them and value these young pastors who work hard to serve the Lord.
Friday
People in China have a "victim mentality" about the Rio Olympics. Eighty percent of those surveyed believe that the referees were biased against Chinese athletes but many of those same athletes publicly apologized to the nation with tears for their poor performance. Believers in China usually blame their pastor for a lack of growth in their church which is one reason churches have difficulty in finding a pastor. May the Lord have mercy on those churches that have turned cold or are without a shepherd and may we each one repent of the places where we have fallen.
Saturday
The authorities in China have announced a massive layoff in the coal mining and steel businesses which will leave 1.8 million people unemployed. We pray that believers will be sensitive and try to help those who are unemployed in their churches. There are many ways they can care for them materially but we pray the church will help them spiritually to walk closely with the Lord during this time of testing of their faith.
Sunday
Currently there are about twelve million people engaged in the coal and steel industry in China and recent layoffs account for almost 15% of the workers in those industries. Being unemployed and with limited financial means is very hard in China where "face" or one's image is very important. We pray that churches will be a place for not only those who are comfortably situated financially or "very blessed of God" but a place where all members of the body of Christ practice His love.
Monday
The economy in China is facing tremendous recessionary pressures with some companies struggling to keep alive and without job openings. With the new wave of graduates looking for work, job markets promise to be very tight. As the economy in China slows down, we pray that churches will play an important role in helping believers to trust the Lord and continue to give to God in good times and in bad times as well.
