Prayer Request 5/7 - 5/13

Tuesday
In 2013 the number of college graduates in China reached its highest number ever. This huge number of graduates looking for jobs coupled with the recent economic slowdown makes a very dire prospect for employment for those who are looking for jobs.We pray for believers who are graduating from college this summer as well as those who are still looking for a job but have found none. May the Lord give them faith to trust Him and not lose heart but to rejoice during the waiting time knowing God will open a way for them.
Wednesday
Beijing is a good example of the dire employment situation in China. At present only one third of those looking for a job have a firm offer of one. One big problem is the concentration of many top-notch schools which produce many graduates and makes it especially difficult to find a job. The majority of Christian college students come from non-believing families and their parents often don’t know their children have become Christians. We pray for courage for these young people to share the gospel with their parents and that their transformed lives will be a powerful testimony at home.
Thursday
In 2013, Beijing has attempted to control the growth of its population, and the demand for college graduates in the various city offices has dropped by fourteen percent. Private companies have also cut down on hiring. This makes Beijing the toughest city in China for graduates to find a job. The dream of all parents in China is to have their children graduate from college and get a good job. We pray that Christian parents will have faith that God has prepared the best for their children and that they will be willing to offer their best to Him including their own children.
Friday
The western part of China is undergoing rapid development but many churches are still suffering because of their remoteness, backwardness, and poverty. There are fewer Christians and the penetration of the gospel is less in Western China. Let us pray for the spreading of the gospel and churches that are strong enough to witness for Jesus there.
Saturday
In 2010 the Three Gorges Dam was filled to capacity and 1.2 million people were forced to relocate. However, there has been a seventy percent increase in landslides and a collapse of riverbanks so now an estimated 100,000 more residents will have to relocate. Rural churches have been losing members because people have moved to the cities to get work and also because of farmers who have lost their land. Let us pray that believers who move to a new city will find a church and continue to mature spiritually. We pray that churches will be sensitive to those who resettle near them but are not accepted by their neighbors.
Sunday
The Three Gorges Dam, the biggest dam project ever undertaken, took twenty years to complete. That there was a need to produce electricity is indisputable, but the ecological consequences of building the dam are onerous. Four million residents have been or will be relocated during the span of ten years. Millions of Chinese farmers have been forced to relocate due to land development. Let us pray that churches will see this as a great opportunity to share the gospel in these resettled townships and start new churches there.
Monday
As the water behind the giant dams rises, people have to be resettled and many of those people cannot find a job. Farmers no longer have their land and they have little else to do since their old homesteads are now under water. Historically, churches along the Yangtze River have been weak and few in number as compared with those along the coast. Let us pray specifically for churches in Hubei and Sichuan and especially those in the two megacities of Wuhan and Chongqing.
